Japanese sub-culture (Series #013)

Soma Kawaguchi from the Faculty of Agriculture gave an interesting talk on Japanese sub-culture focusing on Japanese anime.
He presented almost thoroughly in English, holding the audience in attention...


The moderator this time was a student from Korea, Cho Sang-Chan, a sophomore at the Faculty of Economics...
There were 43 people in the audience, the largest so far...
Out of this, 17 were international students... among them were 12 students from  Fu Jen Catholic University, Aletheia University (Taiwan) and Korea Maritime University who just arrived to attend our two-week Japanese Language and Culture Program...

Soma asked the audience to identity three sets of anime...
While one participant got the first one right, none in the audience could do so for all three anime...

When asked why he chose this topic, he said that he likes anime and that he wanted to present something different from the others who mainly talked about their hometowns...

All in all, the talk was interesting and well attended...

Fujian Province… my hometown (Series #012)

For the 12 presentation in the series, Yang Yumei, a freshman at the Faculty of Economics, talked about her hometown, Fujian Province, China...

After giving an outline of Fujian Province, she proceeded to introduce the audience on the world heritage sites of the province...


Next, she spoke about the capital city of the province, showing pictures of beautiful gardens and night scenes...


Today, we had 16 people in the audience, with 5 of them being international students...
The moderator was Takezaki, a freshman at the Faculty of Education...   


An interesting local food in Fujian is the fishballs...
Unlike others, these have pork meat stuffed inside... 


On this day, a professional photographer was called by the university to shoot pictures for a mmgazine...

The history, scenery, and sweets of Kobe (Series #011)

Sae Adachi from the Faculty of Agriculture made a presentation on Kobe, focusing on her history, scenery, and sweets...
She made a good effort in using English to introduce herself...

The moderator was Yang Yumei from China, a freshman at the Faculty of Economics...

There were 20 participants today, with seven being international students.  

Questions from the audience were mainly on the sweets and food of Kobe...
Apparently, as opposed to Osaka, Kobe is more famous for he sweets...

A Guide to Gourmet and Dating in Japan and Korea (Series #010)

For the tenth presentation in the series, we experienced something new...
Kwon Oh Ryun from Korea partnered with Hideki Hiraoka from Japan to present a guide on Japanese and Korean food, as well as on dating.

Hideki presented in a mix of English and Japanese...
I think he made a very good attempt to do so...
Oh Ryun mainly talked about the rituals boys and girls go through in Korea while dating.
He highlighted numerous differences between the Japanese way and the Korean way...
The audience had a good time listening to how Korean boys had to to do date a girl in Korea.
There were 30 people in the audience, including nine international students.
The moderator was Kairu Furutani from the Faculty of Economics.
He did a very good job in running the show.
